Walleyes

You can fish for walleyes in the St. Croix River, the Mississippi River or Mille Lacs Lake! These are some of the best walleye waters to be found in the upper Midwest!

Tours

Each guided trip lasts four or eight hours. I can take one to three people on each trip; although, two people is ideal. On the fishing trip, you’ll enjoy fishing out of my 2008 Lund 1900 IFS powered by a 225 Mercury Opti-Max motor and use the best equipment Fenwick and Abu Garcia have to offer. Lake Minnetonka Midwave event

On 8/21/09 I was a guide for the annual Midwave Bass event on Lake Minnetonka. I had the privledge of taking out Mike and Al for a day of bass fishing. The weather conditions started out a little misty but improved through the day. Our fishing did too. At our first location we caught a couple of bass and northerns. The wind was blowing the boat around making the boat control difficult. We dicided to move to our next spot. This proved to be a good decision for us. Mike turned into a bass machine (the picture is the bigest of the day). The northerns seemed to like Al’s bait more than the bass did. The bigest of the day was a 3 lb 8 oz large moth and a 3 lb northern.

We finished around 5th place for the day. Thanks to Mike and Al for sharing the boat with me for the day. A great time was had by all.

Don’t forget, there are some great fishing days left this summer and into fall. I have dates available for guide trips. Fall fishing and foliage watching are just around the corner. . . with a tournament left and a family weekend coming, my weekends are filling up so,be sure and secure your date today!

Remember to take a kid out fishing every chance you can.

Otter Tail

I had he privilege of fishing the Lund Mania tournament on Otter Tail lake with my wife. This was her first tournament. While this was a new experience for her, I think she liked it. I certainly liked having my wife as a fishing partner.

The Lund Mania tournament was a new event this year and was certainly well planned and fun. It was held in conjunction with the New York Mills city celebration on July 3. We fished against the likes of Al Linder, Ted Takasaki and Kent Herbek.

The format for the event was also new.. . CRR (catch, record and release) event. I really like this format. No stress on the fish at all.

How did we do? Well, not so well. I think that Bj (my wife) kind of liked it. Hopefully we can make this an annual event.

Remember to take a kid fishing every chance you can.

Fishing the river

I have been spending alot of time on the Mississippi river lately and things are changing. We started last weekend(6/13) with 3-ways with crankbaits. We got a few fish that way but it was slow. We changed to 2 cranks and 2 live baits. The live bait rigs were 3-ways with phelph floaters with one leech and the other had a crawler. The action picked up and we switched to all 4 lines live bait. We caught alot of fish but mailnly 10 to 13" fish. We would catch 5 small ones to every one that we could keep. The next weekend (6/21-22) the action was on live bait also. We would work the edges of the wing dams south of Prescott. We averaged 40-50 fish a day with only about 6 keepers a day. We started to catch some channel cats and strippers as well as the walleye and saugers. Remember that repeat clients get 10% off each trip. Keep on fishing and remember to take a kid out fishing.

Leech Lake

Leech Lake is BACK!!!!!!!! You should be able to catch fish just about any time of the day. I just fished the FLW on Leech Lake on Saturday 6/6. We caught 20 + fish all on either night crawlers or Gulp alive on spinners. The bigest was 25-7/8, it was tough throwing that back. Leech has a slot size of 18 to 26 have to go back. We caught our 5 fish to weigh but couldn’t get the big one over 26". We finished 42nd, oh well there is always the next one. Get out and fish and remember to take a kid fishing.

Leech Lake

We fished Leech lake last weekend. I have tournaments the next 2 weekends. We caught some nice fish. The one above was 27-1/4 and over 7 lbs. We caught 3 over the slot. This weekend (5/30 and 31)we have the Leech Lake Classic. This is a team event and I am fishing with John Gildersleeve. I will post next week on how we did.

Ottertail

I prefished for the Wild 104 tournament and the prefishing went well. We caught some nice fish. The first day of the tournament we caught alot of fish but not the big ones that we were looking for. The second day went better. We finished 40th out of 82 boats. Not what we wanted but there is always next year.

I prefished on Wednessday, Thursday and Friday. We caught some nice 3 to 5 pound fish. I felt good about the tournament since I had 4 spots in pool 4 that I was catching fish. Well as my luck goes on the river all we caught were small fish under 15". We were finnally able to boat 3 legal walleyes for the day. We finished 51. I guess it was better than last.

Minnesota opener is this weekend. You will find me on Ottertail lake at midnight to catch some walleyes. This is the second year in a row on Ottertail, the past 30 + have been on the big pond (Milie Lacs). I have a tournament on ottertail on next Friday and Saturday. I will post next week on how the opener went. Good luck fishing and stay safe.

Time to fish

I am done doing the weekend fishing shows at Cabela’s for now. More weekends coming later this summer. It is now time to wet a line. My first tournament is this weekend May 2. It is the FLW Minnesota Leauge division. These are Pro Am events and I fish as a Pro. I will pre-fish Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I will post a fishing report this week. Remember that the opener is a week earlier this year, it opens May 9th. Take a kid fishing every chance you get.
